Through the proposals in its 14-19 White Paper, the Government is seeking to maximise the number of young people who remain in Education, Employment and Training (EET) until the age of 19.
It has recently announced its intention to introduce a new performance measure for schools based upon the successful progression and destination of young people up to the age of 19 even where those young people have left the school to pursue studies or training elsewhere.
In Bromley the number of young people 16-19 who progress into further education, training and employment is high and, at any one time, the number of young people who are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) is low by national standards.
In March 2007 Bromley 14-19 undertook research into the local factors affecting young people becoming NEET. The outcomes from the research are now informing our strategies and between November 2007 and March 2008 they will form the basis of the research conducted by an Elected Member/Officer working party which is examining factors influencing young people becoming NEET.
